The US Navy fought a global war during WW2, from the balmy South Seas to the howling gales of the North Atlantic. Keeping the shipping lanes safe from the U-boat menace took top priority, as US Navy long range B-24 Liberator bombers flew anti-sub patrols to close the "mid-Atlantic gap", providing air cover for the vital convoys bringing men and materiel to the ETO. Those naval B-24s were designated as the PB4Y-2 “Privateer”. Navy B-24 pilots and aircrews flew long missions in frigid temperatures, which necessitated warm flight clothing. They were issued their own unique unmarked version of the classic B-2 sheepskin flight cap, distinguished from the AAF version by the green checkered underside. This US Navy WW2 B-24 Patrol Bomber Pilot B-2 Sheepskin Leather Flight Cap is in very good condition, with only some light overall age wear evident. Otherwise, the cap is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts the traditional three panel crown, sports the classic long front bill with a green checkered underside, distinguishing it as Navy issue, and is correctly unmarked as to its maker or contract date. It features a warm sheepskin fleece interior crown and fold down ear/neck flap, and is a fine example of a very rare, original US Navy WW2 B-24 Patrol Bomber Pilot B-2 Sheepskin Leather Flight Cap.
