US Army officers of the Cold War period were, above all else, “officers and gentlemen”, and for any formal event that would normally call for a tuxedo being worn by a civilian, a US Army officer would don his blue mess dress uniform. This US Army Late 1950s, Early 1960s Pre-Vietnam “Full Bird” Colonel Quartermaster Corps Bullion BOS & Cuff Braid Badged Blue Wool Mess Dress Uniform is in Very Good condition, with some scattered dark patina to the bullion chinstrap and hatband of the visor cap, the paper name tag having been removed from the crown lining of that visor cap, some scattered darkening to the sweatband of the visor cap, and with some light overall age wear evident. Most interestingly, the dark blue, almost black mess dress jacket boasts 5 elegant looping rows of gold bullion rank insignia at the cuffs, denoting the rank of a “Full Bird” Colonel, each centered by a beautiful bullion embroidered Quartermaster Corps “crossed keys” BOS insignia, all of which surmounts officer’s gold bullion cuff braiding with QM Corps BOS “buff” colored piping, sports matching Quartermaster Corps BOS “buff” colored satin facings on the collar, and carries the original “ASSOCIATED / MILITARY STORES / CHICAGO” tailor’s label inside. The bright blue pants feature QM Corps BOS “buff” colored “service stripes” down the legs, and carry the original, matching “ASSOCIATED / MILITARY STORES / CHICAGO” tailor’s label inside. The dark blue, almost black fur felt visor cap exhibits a gilt brass US Army officer’s spread wing “American Eagle” hat insignia, officer’s gold bullion braid centering Quartermaster Corps BOS “buff” colored piping, a gold bullion chinstrap, gold bullion “scrambled eggs” rank of a Field Grade officer on the visor, a sewn brown leather sweatband, and a green checkered underside of the front brim. A fine example of a rare, original US Army Late 1950s, Early 1960s Pre-Vietnam “Full Bird” Colonel Quartermaster Corps Bullion BOS & Cuff Braid Badged Blue Wool Mess Dress Uniform.
