“His glossy fall coat was in fine trim and shone in the rays of the sun, and his pride of bearing showed him to be in the lusty vigor of his prime”, so wrote Theodore Roosevelt of a bull bison he took in the Dakota Badlands in the early to mid-1880s. The taking of buffalo for sport or sustenance has been a tradition for American hunters for over a century and a half. This American Bison Buffalo Skull, 24” x 24”, Taken In The 1980s By Gun Writer Rick Hacker is in Good condition, with a hole in the right frontal cranium, possibly from the fatal shot, remaining “in the white”, and with moderate overall aging evident. This American Bison Buffalo Skull was taken by noted gun writer Rick Hacker in Montana in the 1980s using a C. Sharps rifle firing a .40-90 duplex load, paper patch bullet. A written account chronicling this hunt appeared in a subsequent Guns & Ammo magazine article. This skull measures about 24” x 24”, and about 10” deep, weighs about 15 lbs, and would be a wonderful addition to a Western room or a saloon as an homage to the “big shaggies”. A fine example of a rare, original American Bison Buffalo Skull, 24” x 24”, Taken In The 1980s By Gun Writer Rick Hacker.
