Our Assessment: In 1955, Colt introduced the finest precision combat and target revolver ever made, the Python. As R.L. Wilson states in “The Book of Colt Firearms”, “The Python was the Rolls Royce of their handgun line. The ventilated rib and shrouded barrel profile was immediately recognized as a classic in design.” Each Python revolver was hand-tuned at the factory, and this attention to detail was exemplified both cosmetically and in operation. With barrel lengths ranging from 2.5″ to 8″, and with some of the finest machining and finishing ever seen in the industry, the Python has earned its reputation and status among shooters, hunters, and law enforcement officials. Vintage examples such as this remain highly sought after today, for the modern Colt Python revolvers are no longer made like those of yesteryear. The price for these fantastic vintage revolvers is just going to continue to appreciate. They are becoming harder and harder to find, making it difficult to bring oneself to actually fire a Python, should one lay their hands on an example.
This Colt Python Nickel Revolver was made in 1980 and is in Excellent condition. It’s most notable for being a very desirable nickel example. Noteworthy also is the high condition of the nickel finish, which in all likelihood is as dazzling today as it was more than 40 years ago. This Python has been beautifully cared for, and is truly lovely in the hand. This would be a coveted addition to any collection.
