Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 98% of its metal finish. The action shows minor operational wear and there are a few scattered minor marks. The screw head is lightly tool marked with a strong slot. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The included magazine does not properly engage the slide stop. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. The manual safety can be used to lock the slide forward. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with one original Vintage 1970s Colt blued 10-round magazine marked “COLT CAL. 22 L.R.” on the bottom floorplate.
Our Assessment: Another innovative design sprung from the mind of gunmaking genius John Moses Browning was the “Colt’s Automatic Pistol, Caliber .22”, later to become the Woodsman, with the design refined slightly by Colt employees George Tansley and F.C. Chadwick before it was released in 1915. The Woodsman stayed in production until 1977. While sportsmen favored the 4 ½” barrel Sport Model, target shooters preferred the 6” barrel Target Model with its adjustable sights.
This Colt 3rd Series Woodsman Target Pistol was made in ca. February 1977 and is in Excellent condition. It features 98% of its original lustrous blued finish, slightly altered walnut grips, adjustable sights, a claw magazine release characteristic of the 1st and 3rd Series, a 6” barrel, and a bright bore with sharp rifling. Whether you're looking for a shooter or an addition to a Colt collection, this is a beautiful old pony to bring home to any stable.
