The left rear of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and installed with a Williams mount with a fully adjustable rear aperture sight. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and installed with a mount and rings holding a Weaver V8 2.5x-8x scope with a crosshair reticle. The scope body has light nicks, scuffs, and handling marks. The scope glass is mostly clear but would benefit from a thorough cleaning.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece checkered walnut featuring a semi-pistol grip with grip cap, a fluted straight comb, and a black hard rubber buttplate. The wood shows a few light nicks, compressions, and minor handling and storage marks. The checkering has some light wear but overall remains sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate has some minor nicks and dings, primarily around the edges. The stock is in Fine Plus overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is well-defined. There is some stubborn fouling and light erosion in the bore near the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates an 8 or 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light nicks and handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes the Weaver V8 scope as described above and one original Vintage Winchester blued 4 round magazine. It’s marked “M-100” on the top follower, and “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK” on the bottom floorplate. The magazine features intact feed lips and a strong follower spring.
Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 100 was the sleekest, and perhaps the most accurate, semi-automatic sporting rifle of its time. It was produced from 1961-1973, with around 262,838 manufactured. The Model 100 could be chambered in .308, .243, or .284 Winchester. This example is chambered in .308 Winchester, and remains mechanically sound. Due to an issue with the firing pin on some Model 100 Rifles, which could cause serious safety hazards, Winchester initiated a recall for the gun in 1990 and offered to repair the gun free of charge. Please note that this rifle does not include any paperwork addressing whether or not it has been serviced based on this recall. This is a beautiful old Winchester semi-auto rifle that is in great condition, and it will certainly appeal to collectors.
