In the 1920s, fresh off of lucrative World War 1 military contracts, the legendary Winchester Repeating Arms Co. sought to diversify from a manufacturer of firearms and ammunition to a broad-based gun, hardware, and sporting goods operation. This Antique 1920s Winchester Carpenter's Half Hatchet Hammer is in Good Condition, with some sharpening, scratching, and deep chipping to the hatchet blade edge, moderate denting to the hammer head, moderate patina to the hatchet blade, moderate fading to the maker’s mark at the left side of the hatchet blade, some whitish paint residue at the upper portion of the handle, a deep chip in one edge of the bottom handle, and with some overall age wear evident. Most interestingly, it boasts the classic carpenter’s half hatchet blade with a nail puller in the bottom edge and a hammer head at top, sports a rugged wooden handle, and is faintly stamped at the left side of the hatchet blade with its maker, the famous “WINCHESTER / TRADEMARK / MADE IN USA / -SPECIAL-”. It measures 12” x 5 7/8”, and is a fine example of a rare, original Antique 1920s Winchester Carpenter's Half Hatchet Hammer.
