Our Assessment: The Ruger 10/22 is one of the most iconic and best-selling rimfire rifles ever produced, and for good reason. Introduced in 1964, its reliability, modularity, and ease of use have made it a staple for generations of shooters—whether for plinking, small game hunting, or competitive rimfire sports. The 10/22's unique 10-round rotary magazine and direct blowback action deliver consistent performance and reliability. This Model 01102 Sporter Carbine variant, produced in 1990, features a checkered walnut stock and upgraded furniture, setting it apart from the standard synthetic or birch-stocked models more commonly encountered. This rifle is in excellent condition with 99% of its original metal finish remaining and only light signs of use on the action. The bore is bright with crisp rifling, and the overall fit and finish show careful handling over the decades. The walnut stock is particularly attractive, featuring sharp checkering and clean lines, and it pairs nicely with the leather sling for a traditional sporting appearance. It comes equipped with factory iron sights as well as a Weaver scope rail and rings, giving it flexible optics potential. Though no magazine is included, replacements are easily sourced given the widespread availability of Ruger rotary mags.
Whether you're seeking a high-quality shooter, a foundation for a custom build, or simply want a clean, classic 10/22 for the collection, this Sporter Carbine delivers. The walnut-stocked variants of the 10/22 are increasingly appreciated for their blend of utility and style, and this example—made during Ruger’s high-quality 1990s production period—is a fine representation of the model's enduring reputation. It's ready for range use, varmint control, or simply to be enjoyed as one of the most well-designed .22 rifles ever built.
