Our Assessment: The Chiappa Citadel Kimar M1-22 is a .22 LR semi-automatic carbine designed to closely replicate the iconic U.S. M1 Carbine in appearance and handling. This rimfire clone features a lightweight alloy receiver, wood stock, and an 18" barrel that gives it a familiar length and balance. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle, the M1-22 operates with a simple blowback action and feeds from detachable box magazines, typically with a 10-round capacity. The controls, sights, and stock profile mimic the WWII-era M1 Carbine, including a rear aperture sight and protected front blade, making it a solid training rifle or plinking companion with historical appeal.
Chiappa's licensing brings this reproduction to market at an accessible price point, offering enthusiasts a way to enjoy the classic lines and ergonomics of the M1 Carbine without the expense or recoil of centerfire ammunition. While it lacks some of the rugged steel construction of the original, it still delivers reliable function and a very authentic look. Ideal for casual shooting, small game hunting, or historical-themed collections, the M1-22 has found a niche among fans of military-style rimfires and collectors looking for a cost-effective alternative to vintage surplus arms.
