Serial Number: 0959923
Year of Manufacture: 1991
Caliber: .45 ACP
Action Type: Blowback Operated Detachable Magazine Semi-Automatic Carbine
Barrel Length: 16 1/2”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an orange plastic blade that is dovetailed to a serrated ramped base that is screwed to the barrel; the base has an open-top hood. The rear sight is a folding U-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the rear of the barrel. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped with a Weaver one-piece base installed. Rings and a Bushnell Sportview 4-12 scope with duplex reticle are included. The stop has minor wear in the body with fairly clear glass.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece smooth stained hardwood with a pistol grip, straight comb, sling studs front and rear, and a brown rubber Marlin butt pad. The stock has no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14” from the front of the trigger to the rear of the pad. The pad has minor wear. The stock rates in Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp micro-groove rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9+/10.
Overall Condition: This carbine retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is a scratch on the left of the barrel below the front sight base. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The Marlin magazine is a copy of the Colt 1911 magazine and this gun should function properly with most 1911 magazines. We did not fire this carbine. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes in a Doskocil hard case with key, the scope described above, a decoratively tooled leather sling with QD swivels, Marlin sticker and a total of seven magazines. Five magazines are Metalfom 7-round, one is a Marlin 7-round, and one is a Marlin 4-round magazine.
Our Assessment: These are nifty little carbines and a good companion for anyone who already owns a single stack 1911 since they can take the same ammo and magazines. They take the same scope mounts as the Marlin 336 lever action, so mounts are easily available. The Camp Carbine lends itself particularly well to red dot sights if iron sights seem to be getting smaller and fuzzier. The Camp Carbine was discontinued by Marlin in 1999 and a small cult has grown up around them. They can work well for home defense, especially for people who find the 1911 difficult to manipulate and shoot or desire a long gun but are worried about over-penetration.
This example was made in 1991 and is in Excellent condition. It comes with a case, scope and sling. Not only does it come with five after-market magazines, it has two Marlin magazines, one 7-round and one 4-round. The result is equally suited to a Marlin collection as it is to guarding the camp, hunting, or recreational shooting. Please see our photos and good luck!
