Our Assessment: This stunning custom Remington Model 121 exemplifies both fine craftsmanship and artistic presentation in a classic American .22 pump-action rifle. Manufactured in 1947, this example has been tastefully customized with intricate engraving and a skillfully executed high-grade finish. The rifle retains approximately 98% of its current metal finish, and the action remains crisp and mechanically sound. With a bright bore and sharp rifling, this rifle offers exceptional performance potential, making it as functional as it is beautiful.
What truly sets this rifle apart is its remarkable engraving work signed by Michel Courant on the receiver. The left side features a beautifully detailed molded gold fox perched on a tree stump, while the right side displays a dramatic scene of a peregrine falcon in pursuit of a ruffed grouse. The gold scenes are shaded and accented in silver, an excellent display of Courant's skill. Elegant scrollwork accents the receiver, trigger guard, and muzzle, with a gold band at the muzzle, creating a cohesive and highly artistic motif. These elements elevate the rifle from a standard Remington 121 to a collector-grade piece, suitable for display or refined use afield.
The deluxe walnut stock further enhances the rifle’s appeal, showcasing a fine grain pattern with sharply checkered panels on both the semi-pistol grip and the extended slide handle. Light handling marks are present but minor, and the stock remains free of cracks or chips. This custom Model 121 would be a prized addition to any sporting rifle collection, particularly for those who appreciate masterful engraving and the timeless utility of a vintage .22.
