Year of Manufacture: ca. 1908
Caliber: 12 GA, 2 1/2" Shells
Action Type: Top Lever Opening Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun
Barrel Length: 30″

Sights/Optics: The front sight is a brass bead at the front of the rib. The rib is serrated for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered wood with splinter forend, capped pistol grip, straight comb and checkered black hard rubber buttplate. The stocks have several scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches, with areas of finish wear at the rear of the buttstock. There are tiny cracks at the rear of the top tang. The checkering is generally well defined. The LOP measures 14 1/4" and 13 1/2" from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. Drop at comb is approximately 1 3/4", drop at heel 2 3/4". The buttplate has a loss at the toe across the bottom mounting screw with scattered wear. Overall, the stocks are in about Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blue & Case Color
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bores are mostly bright. There is infrequent erosion in the bores, mostly just in front of the forcing cones. In this writer's opinion, the bores rate 8+/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 60% of its metal finish. Most of the balance is wear scattered along the barrels. The worn areas show scattered surface oxidation. The receiver retains most of its case color. There are scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this shotgun. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: The Crescent Fire Arms Co. was a prolific manufacturer whose shotguns were generally distributed by the H&D Folsom Arms Company. They would apply trade names to their firearms for just about anyone who would meet the minimum order requirement and pay for the stamping die for the marking of their name, sometimes as few as a dozen shotguns for one company. This example was made in about 1908 and was marked with Crescent's own name. It has nice bores for a 100+ year old shotgun and the lockup is solid. This would make a nice piece to hang above the fireplace and after a careful inspection may prove worthy to head back out in the field. Please see our photos and good luck!
