WWII German K98 dot 1944 Czech Mauser 8mm Bolt Action RifleOur Assessment: The German K98 rifle, also known as the Mauser K98, was a standard infantry rifle used by the German military during World War II. It was developed by the German arms manufacturer Mauser and was based on the earlier G98 rifle. The K98 was a bolt-action rifle that was chambered for the 7.92x57mm cartridge and had a 5-round internal magazine. The rifle was highly regarded for its accuracy and reliability, and it became one of the most widely used rifles of the war. In addition to its use by German soldiers, the K98 was also supplied to various countries as part of military aid and was used by several Axis and some Allied powers. After the war, the K98 saw service with the armed forces of several countries, including Portugal, Spain, and Greece, and it remained in use for several decades. Today, the K98 is a popular collectible among firearms enthusiasts and is widely sought after by military collectors. This K98 was produced during WWII at Waffen Werke Brunn (dot) in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia. The rifle has been rebuilt & refinished. The barrel shank and bolt handle are marked with the serial number. Many of the parts were replaced during the rebuild. There is no visible import mark.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an inverted V post set atop a small ramped base and under removable protective hood. The rear sight is a V notched blade attached to a sliding sight escalator.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The laminate stock has a pistol grip, scallop for the bolt handle, nose cap with bayonet lug, hole for the included cleaning rod, barrel band with sling bar, through bolt, domed washer, sling well with pass through, and a metal buttplate. The stock hardware has been refinished. The buttplate shows moderate wear. The bottom of the buttplate is proud of the wood. There is a repair below the right side of the receiver. The wood shows scrapes & scratches. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition as refurbished.

Bore Condition: The muzzle and grooves are gray. The rifling is deep. There is erosion in the bore, mostly in the grooves. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates a 6.5 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish as refinished. Scratches and surface erosion show through the new finish. The metal shows scrapes, discoloration from oxidation, and operational wear. The screw heads show use. The markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic's check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a leather K98 sling that is marked "L&F" on the buckle.
