WWI Italy Vetterli Carcano 1887/16 6.5 Bolt Action Rifle MFD 1889 ANTIQUEOur Assessment: This Italian Vetterli Carcano 1887/16 was MANUFACTURED in 1889 (ANTIQUE). It started life as a 4 shot Model 1887 and was later upgraded to 1887/16 configuration. The Model 1870 (precursor to the 1887) was a single shot rifle. The 1870/87 was upgraded with a 4 round Vitali magazine. The 1870 and 1870/87 were chambered in 10.35x47R. The 1870/87/16 and 1887/16 conversions were emergency upgrades for WWI. The final upgrade included modifying the rifle to fire the Carcano cartridge and adding a Carcano magazine. This example shows honest wear for a rifle of this type and age, it will go nicely in any Italian or Military collection. This ANTIQUE cartridge firing rifle must be C&R transferred in California, other states disregard, your states restrictions apply. Please see our photos, good luck and happy bidding!

The stocks rate in about Fair Plus overall condition, as ANTIQUE.
Type of Finish: This rifle has lost its finish.
Bore Condition: The bore has deep rifling; shallow at the muzzle. The muzzle and grooves are gray due to erosion. In this writer's opinion and for the age, the bore rates a 5 out of 10.Most ANTIQUE firearms have bores that will show erosion. This not only due to age but to the use of black powder. When fired, black powder reacts corrosively. NRA ANTIQUE Firearm Conditions Standards are quite lenient for bores. In some cases, the NRA standards disregarded the bore's condition for collectors' firearms.
Overall Condition: The rifle has lost its metal finish. It shows scrapes, scuffs, light surface erosion, and a brown patina. The rear of the bolt assembly is dented. The screw heads are sharp, some show light tool marks. Most markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fair condition, as ANTIQUE.
Mechanics: The action does not function. There may be missing internal parts. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a more thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
