WWII Savage Enfield No4 MkI* Sniper .303 British Bolt Action Rifle 1942 With ScopeOur Assessment: The Enfield No4 MkI rifle is a bolt-action rifle that was used by the British military during World War II. The No4 MkI was the standard issue rifle for British and Commonwealth forces from 1939 until the mid-1950s when it was replaced by the L1A1 SLR (Self-Loading Rifle). It saw extensive service during World War II and was also used by many other countries after the war. The No4 MkI was known for its accuracy, reliability, and durability, and it remains a popular firearm among collectors and shooters today.This Enfield No4 Mk1 was made by Savage back in 1942. The rifle was made as part of the Lend-Lease program and was shipped off to help win WWII. This No4 MkI* has been commercially converted to mimic a No4 MkI (T) Sniper Rifle. The numbers on the receiver and bolt handle match. There is an import mark on the receiver. A No 32 scope assembly and a raised cheek piece have been installed.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a bladed post set atop a small ramped base and between two protective ears. The rear sight is normally an aperture sight when down. The stationary aperture has been removed to install the scope. It flips up to become a sight ladder. The sight ladder uses an adjustable aperture. The left side of the receiver has two threaded holes for accepting the scope base that is attached to the scope. The scope is a fixed 3 power with a post & horizontal line reticle. The view is clear with a small black fleck on the reticle post. The scope tube shows scratches and cleaned surface erosion. The scope tube is marked "TEL. STG. No32 Mk3".
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a straight grip with finger groove, serrated handguard, 2 nosecaps, 2 barrel bands, 2 sling loops, and a metal buttplate with a hinged door for storage. The buttplate shows oxidation and light wear. The wood shows scrapes, compression marks, and sanding marks. The LOP measures 13 1/4 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition as refurbished.

Bore Condition: The bore has deep rifling. The muzzle is light gray and the grooves are semi bright. There is fouling and erosion at the muzzle and in the grooves. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates 7 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The front of the barrel & front sight have been touched up with paint. The metal shows scrapes and discoloration from both oxidation and oil residue. The front of the receiver shows light thinning. The screw heads show use. The markings are faded. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic's check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a 10 round magazine and a web sling. The magazine appears to function properly.
