1951 Smith & Wesson Model K-38 Combat Masterpiece Pre-Model 15 .38 Special 4" Revolver Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson K-38 Combat Masterpiece, later named the Model 15, is another classic from Smith. The Pre-Model 15 is like the Pre-Model 14 but sets itself apart with its Baughman quickdraw sight and shorter 4" barrel. Though firearms development has progressed since the '60s, the name "Combat Masterpiece" was well earned by this revolver. Often issued by law enforcement agencies in the mid-20th century, this revolver embodies the reliability for which Smith & Wesson is famous. If you are seeking a carry, service revolver or home defense revolver this handgun is up to the task. For anyone looking for a quality revolver, this gun just about sells itself. When it comes to revolvers Smith & Wessons of this era have never disappointed and this certainly no exception. Smith & Wesson weren't just bragging when they called this model the "Masterpiece", the 4" barrel, adjustable sights, and smooth action all promise to make this a tackdriver.
