Engraved Colt 1st Generation .44-40 Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver Our Assessment: Colt's Single Action Army is, perhaps more than any other, an iconic American pistol. It was the U.S. issue sidearm for the last two decades of the 19th century, used by pioneers, outlaws and lawmen across the expanding nation, and captivated audiences on the silver screen and television (and still does, today). Produced for nearly a century and a half, they are still being made, today! Apart from markings and chambering, the 'Frontier Six Shooter' is the same as any other Single Action Army, but they are specifically chambered for the .44-40 WCF cartridge, making an ideal companion revolver for a Winchester lever action rifle chambered for the same cartridge. This example is a 1st Generation Frontier Six Shooter made in 1912. It has been engraved and silver plated with handsome grips installed. The result is a visually striking revolver that will turn heads. Any 1st Generation SAA would make a great addition to a Colt collection, and this embellished early 20th Century example should be no exception. Please see our photos and good luck!

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. There is some minor erosion at the muzzle-end. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8 out of 10.Many military and C&R-eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its current metal finish. The finish is generally strong with scattered discoloration that should polish out. There are some minor finish losses at sharper edges and some scattered minor marks. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are generally clear, the frame's rampant colt is worn and incomplete. Overall, this revolver is in Very Good-plus condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder has a removable bushing. The cylinder locks up with barely perceptible play on each chamber. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
