Rare Winchester 62-A Factory Prototype .22 Short Pump Gallery Gun
Our Assessment: This a truly Rare opportunity for Winchester collectors and aficionados alike. This Winchester 62A shows a production date in 1948. The barrel is factory proofed but obviously not finished or marked for retail release. The distinct tags show that this rifle was at one point part of the famous Peter and Patty Murray collection and the information provided corroborates that this was a factory prototype used for ammo function testing purposes against the rifle's design. Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to the barrel above the muzzle. The rear sight is a U-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the top rear of the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece walnut featuring a ribbed forend greater than 7" with 17 grooves, a straight grip, a straight comb and a Winchester hard rubber buttplate. The wood shows some light nicks, scratches, compressions and some minor handling and storage marks. The LOP measures 13 3/8" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks are in Fine Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is well-defined. There is some persistent fouling in the grooves and light erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates an 8 or 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. This rifle's markings, configuration and finish (or lack thereof) corroborate the information provided on the tags that this rifle is a factory experimental prototype mostly likely provided to an ammo producer for function testing purposes ammo on this platform. The tags verify this rifle is formerly part of the Peter and Patty Murray collection. The screw heads are mostly sharp with a few with light tooling marks. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic's check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
