Pre-64 1948 Winchester Model 70 G7004C .30-06 Sprg 24" Bolt Action Rifle & Weaver ScopeOur Assessment: This a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 rifle chambered in .30-06 and made in 1948. It is a Standard Rifle configuration with 24" barrel and a checkered walnut stock. The rifle is in Very Good condition with about 90% of its finish remaining, honest wear in the stock, a good bore and strong mechanics. It has been equipped with a vintage Weaver scope in a Stith mount which conveniently uses the factory mounting provisions rather than having to add holes. This a beautiful rifle in a popular hunting cartridge that is ready to head back out in the field or add to your Winchester collection.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a hooded, textured, ramped base fixed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled. There are Stith mounts installed on the left-rear of the receiver and in the rear sight dovetail holding a Weaver J 2.5x scope with post reticle. The scope body has minor wear and the glass is fairly clear, though the lenses could use a good cleaning. The rifle and stock did not need to be modified to accommodate the scope (apart from the rear sight removal).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece checkered walnut with pistol grip, straight comb, checkered steel buttplate and sling swivels front and rear. The stock has scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches with some areas of finish wear. There is a repaired chip at the heel. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 5/8" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has scattered wear, mostly around the edges. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges and there is some scattered thinning on the receiver. There are some scattered light nicks, scratches and infrequent spots of minor oxidation. The action shows operational wear and there is handling wear on the bolt knob. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a more thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
