Springfield 1922 MI/M2 .22LR 1903 Military Trainer Bolt Action Rifle 1927Our Assessment: This Training Rifle started life as a Model 1922 MI. It was later converted to M2 configuration and the receiver designation was changed. The rifle looks impressive for its age. It has Springfield markings on the receiver, barrel, and stock.The final designation Model 1922 .22 caliber trainers is the M2. This an important and valuable U.S. rifle made by Springfield Armory. These rifles were designed to mimic the full size Springfield Model 1903's, yet were chambered in .22LR. The goal was to give soldiers trigger time on a Springfield 1903, without the expense of .30 Caliber ammo. Many M2s were used for civilian competition shooting. The Springfield M2 has become a desired collector's piece.

Sights / Optics: The front globe sight is set atop a raised base. It uses a ball & pin insert. The rear sight is fully adjustable Lyman aperture.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, barrel band, 2 sling loops, and a checkered metal buttplate. The buttplate shows discoloration and light wear. The storage hole under the buttplate is about 1/2 an inch deep. The stock shows small scrapes & scratches. The LOP measures 13 1/4 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore has sharp rifling. The muzzle & grooves are semi bright. They show fouling and erosion. The fouling should clean up some. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates 6.5 out of 10.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The metal shows small scrapes, handling marks, and some light discoloration. The screw heads show use. Most of the markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic's check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a 5 round magazine that appears to function correctly.
