Victory in the Pacific hinged on air power, as US Navy and Marine Corps fighter pilots battled Japanese Zeros in deadly dogfights over the Solomons, Leyte Gulf, and in the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot until air supremacy in the Pacific was won. Naval aviators of WW2 were issued the classic NAF 1092 leather flight helmet for wear in intermediate weather. This US Navy USMC Marine WW2 F4U Corsair F6F Hellcat Pilot Wired NAF 1092 Goatskin Leather Flight Helmet is in very good condition, with some light scattered drying, wrinkling, and darkening, and with some light overall age wear evident. Otherwise, the helmet is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough "pebbled" brown goatskin leather construction. Most interestingly, it boasts ear phones with wiring and end plug, sports the classic sewn brown leather ear cups with small white velour interior ear pads at each side, and carries the original “NAF 1092 / SLOTE & KLEIN” US Navy contract label on the fine chamois lining. It bears "USN" stamped at the back left crown, features the traditional front bill, triple crown seams, and goggle retention tabs at back, and is complete with the original brown leather chin cup. A fine example of a rare, original US Navy USMC Marine WW2 F4U Corsair F6F Hellcat Pilot Wired NAF 1092 Goatskin Leather Flight Helmet. Also included is a pair of post-war Spanish made “Climax” brand motorcycle goggles for display.
