Women also served in the US Marine Corps during WW2, as mechanics, clerical staff, and in other capacities to free men for combat. They were universally respected by their male counterparts, and issued their own specially designed version of the forest green wool service dress uniform. This USMC Marine US WW2 Women’s Forest Green Wool Service Dress Uniform Grouping is in Good condition, with a sizable seam tear in the lower middle back of the jacket, a few moth holes and stitched repairs at the upper right back of the jacket, some scattered small holes and tears around the upper back lining of the jacket, moderate fading to the almost illegible maker’s mark on the crown lining of the visor cap, some light spot fraying to the “acorns” of the hat cord on that cap, moderate drying, wrinkling, and darkening to the gloves, moderate wrinkling to the khaki shirt, some wrinkling to the jacket, and with some overall age wear evident. Most interestingly, the jacket boasts a ribbon bar for the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, and WW2 Victory Medal at the left chest, forest green wool on red felt Buck Sergeant chevrons at the sleeves, and M-37 enlisted man’s Eagle, Globe, and Anchor insignias at the collar points. The skirt is crafted of the same forest green wool gabardine as the jacket, and carries a plastic button and metal zipper closure at the left side. One of the best pieces in the grouping is the Visor Cap, Size 22 1/2, with a beautiful M-37 Eagle, Globe, and Anchor emblem at front, the top crown seam that only extends halfway along the middle, denoting WW2 manufacture, the original red hat cord secured by USMC side buttons, and a faint “KNOX” maker’s mark on the satin crown lining. The grouping also features a pair of 1940s private purchase brown leather pumps in a female Size 8 AA/AAAA; these are not military issue, but could’ve easily been privately purchased, as their was an entire industry to cater to both male and female service members during that time. The Size 32R khaki cotton shirt features the buttons on the correct side for a woman, and exhibits two chest pockets. The group is rounded out with a few ancillary pieces, namely a khaki worsted wool tie, a white cotton dress belt, a dark brown, almost black leather dress belt, and a pair of dark brown leather gloves, and as an added bonus, a pair of USMC WW2 men’s forest green wool service dress pants, named to an “H.W. LLOYD”, are included as well. A fine example of a rare, original USMC Marine US WW2 Women’s Forest Green Wool Service Dress Uniform Grouping.
