The US Navy fought a global war during WW2, from the balmy South Seas to the howling gales of the North Atlantic. Keeping the shipping lanes safe from the U-boat menace took top priority, as US Navy long range B-24 Liberator bombers flew anti-sub patrols to close the “mid-Atlantic gap”, providing air cover for the vital convoys bringing men and materiel to the ETO. Those naval B-24s were designated as the PB4Y-2 “Privateer”. Navy B-24 pilots and aircrews flew long missions in frigid temperatures, which necessitated warm flight clothing. They were issued the classic Colvinex electrically heated leather flight suit, which included the B-7 boots, constructed of black rubber with sheepskin fleece trim around the interior tops. This pair of US Navy WW2 B-24 Patrol Bomber Pilot Colvinex M456-A B-7 Electrically Heated Flight Boots are in fair condition, with heavy cracking and dark glue repairing at the right back of the right boot, moderate scattered surface cracking throughout, some scattered small edge tears throughout, and with moderate overall drying, stiffening, and age wear evident. Please note, they are suitable for a static display only, they cannot be worn. Most interestingly, they are a Size Medium, boast fully functional metal front zippers with rawhide leather pulls, and both carry the original “BOOTS / Electrically Heated / Bureau of Aeronautics / U.S. NAVY / B-7 / MEDIUM / M456A / COLVINEX CORPORATION” nomenclature tags inside. They feature ridged black rubber soles, brown leather top “collars”, and sheepskin fleece trim around the interior tops.
